Banshee
An Animated Series Concept and Pitch Deck
Peter, a 30-year old recluse, is haunted by his past and his near-death
experience 10 years ago. The only thing that he still lives for is his
attachment to The Banshee. Based on Irish folklore, Banshee imagines
who truly screams in the forest on those dark nights. In this limited
television series, Peter’s morals are tested for the sight of the woman that
has spared his life a decade ago.
Peter’s House.
Peter’s town is surrounded by woods, which makes it easy to hide his crimes. It is
not abnormal for the houses to be spaced out, so as groundskeeper, Peter’s house
resides by the forest. His long, drunk walk home from the pub makes it easy to
find any other men in a similar condition as him.
First Episode:
In World War I, Peter and a handful of boys from his company planned to flee in the middle of the night. An ear-splitting scream met them in the woods and soldiers one by one were welcomed into the afterlife by the Banshee, but not Peter. Here, Peter devotes his life to the woman who welcomes death.
Character Lineup
Peter:
After being dishonorably discharged from the military, 30-year-old Peter is unable to forget his past by his townspeople. He doesn’t keep friends, but everyone knows him around town because of his frequency at the pub and as the local gardener. As murders progress to hurt the innocent, Peter flies under the radar because of his lanky build and seemingly timid nature.
Peter Turnaround
Banshee: Form 1
The form that Peter saw in the forest 10 years ago.
The Banshee is commonly misunderstood as a killer. Her true
mission is to act as a warning for victims passing onto the afterlife.
This form welcomes the innocent and is saddened by death. She
wouldn’t hurt a fly. That’s for her other form to take care of.
She is just as entranced by Peter as Peter is with her. That night
during the war, she saw immense light from his eyes that she couldn’t
take away. She watches over him. As his crimes progress, the Banshee
finds it hard to separate the boy she met years ago with the man that
defies her divine purpose.
Transformation
Banshee: Form 2
This form the Banshee uses to welcome the guilty into the afterlife. Unlike the Banshee’s former state, this form is more than willing to take death into her own hands and kill anyone who tries to abuse her purpose. Peter first witnesses her when he kills one of his hecklers from the bar. Little did Peter know, that man had a guiltier conscious.
Early concepts.
In early development, Banshee was only one person. As I separated her into two creatures, unconscious of each other’s actions, Form 1 was digital while Form 2 was primarily done by using charcoal. Admiring the texture, the characters’ shading are completed through scanned charcoal swatches while their linework is handled digitally. Charcoal has become important to the overall authenticity of the characters, seen in Peter’s soft sweater and especially the engulfing aura surrounding the Banshee.
